The Daily Star, a British tabloid, recently reported that Apple plans to spend about $7 billion on Manchester United, but foreign media MacRumors directly contacted a number of people familiar with the matter, saying the report was wrong and untrue.

Manchester United has been majority owned by the Glazer family since 2005. The club announced on Tuesday that its board plans to "explore strategic options", one of which is to sell the club. The news came on the same day that Manchester United announced that star player Cristiano Cristiano Ronaldo would leave the club.

Although there are no plans to buy Manchester United, Apple has been promoting the development of sports content.
