CTOnews.com November 25 news, Microsoft through the mature and benign Windows Insider project, continue to improve the Win11 system based on user feedback. In the latest preview release, the settings app adds a "Trade-in or recycle your PC" option to make it easier for users to buy new devices at a discount.

CTOnews.com understands that the feature briefly appeared in a preview of Win11, and Microsoft quickly removed it, promising to bring it back online after subsequent improvements. Although not enabled by default in the latest preview, users can enable it using the Vivetools tool.

To enable it, you just need to download Vivetool and browse to the root folder. Open your favorite terminal application and run the following command.

/enable /id:39731733

Once you do, make sure you reboot your Windows 11 device to apply the new changes in the Settings app. When you get back to your desktop, just go to System> Display> About and you should see the new menu in the Settings app.

Microsoft itself provides guidance on how to do the whole thing, explaining that PC manufacturers don't have to do this, but recommends encouraging trade-ins and providing resources to find programs in this area. Microsoft explained:

Starting with the 22H2 version of Windows 11, the Settings app includes customizable links that you can configure to direct customers to trade-in or recycle devices. Configuring these links is optional and only customized links will be displayed.
