November 24, according to foreign media reports, GM plans to launch more than 15 pure electric models based on Ultium platform in China by 2025 to catch up with the world's largest electric vehicle market leader.

GM said SAIC GM would have two Ultium plants in Shanghai and Wuhan by the end of the year, which would significantly increase the production capacity of pure electric vehicles based on the platform. The company also said it would produce 1 million electric vehicles a year in China by 2025.

GM's Ultium platform is the industry's first ultra-large-scale electric vehicle platform designed with flexibility and modularization as the core, providing power, range and performance that make almost every vehicle an electric vehicle.

Cars using the Ultium platform include the Cruise Origin AV, BrightDrop commercial vehicles, GMC HUMMER EV, Chevrolet Silverado EV, and the Cadillac CELESTIQ ultra-luxury flagship launched in October.

On September 14, 2021, General Motors officially launched the Ultium platform to the Chinese market. The Cadillac Lyriq EV, the company's first model based on the Ultium platform, was introduced in China in September this year after it was launched in China in July this year.

Tesla is a leader in China's electric car market, where GM is trying to catch up with Tesla. GM sold about 629900 vehicles in China in the third quarter of 2022, up 1 per cent from a year earlier.
