On November 23, 2022, VMware released its financial results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2023. According to the report, VMware's third-quarter revenue totaled $3.21 billion, up 1% year-on-year; subscription, SaaS and license revenue totaled $1.61 billion, up 5% year-on-year; subscription and SaaS revenue accounted for 31% of total revenue; subscription and SaaS revenue was $988 million, up 20% year-on-year; subscription and SaaS ARR was $4.1 billion, up 24% year-on-year.

In the third quarter, VMware's net income per GAAP was $231 million, or 54 cents per diluted share, compared with net income per GAAP of $398 million, or 94 cents per diluted share, in the third quarter of fiscal 2022, down 43 percent from the same period last year; non-GAAP net profit was $626 million, or $1.47 per diluted share, compared with net income of $725 million, or $1.72 per diluted share, in the third quarter of 2022, down 15 per cent from the same period last year. GAAP operating revenue was $390 million, down 25 per cent from a year earlier, while non-GAAP operating revenue was $857 million, down 8 per cent from a year earlier. Operating cash flow was $1.26 billion and free cash flow was $1.16 billion in the third quarter, while RPO totaled $11.9 billion, up 7 per cent from a year earlier.

"the results in the third quarter were in line with our expectations," said Raghu Raghuram, chief executive of VMware. "Last quarter, we demonstrated strong innovation, releasing a number of new products from VMware vSphere 8, VMware vSAN 8 and VMware Aria. In the future, we will continue to work to help customers transform their business and unleash the full potential of many clouds."

Zane Rowe, executive vice president and chief financial officer of VMware, said: "our subscription and SaaS ARR increased by 24% year-on-year in the third quarter, reflecting increased adoption in our multi-cloud portfolio and newly launched customer programs. At the same time, our subscription and SaaS revenue grew to 31% of our total revenue in the quarter by continuing to meet the changing needs of our customers."
