According to South Korean media reports, Samsung Foundry, the contract manufacturing department of Samsung Electronics, has signed contracts with Nvidia, Qualcomm, IBM, Baidu and other companies to use 3nm process technology to make chips for them.

At the end of June 2021, Samsung officially announced the success of streaming 3nm, which means that it is only one step away from mass production. On June 30 this year, the company officially announced the success of mass production of 3nm, and the first batch of 3nm wafers were shipped on July 25 this year.

Earlier, there were reports that Samsung had encountered difficulties in its 3nm process. Since mass production, the yield of this process is no more than 20%, and the progress of mass production is in a bottleneck. Samsung said it would work with Silicon Frontline Technology to find a solution.

Foreign media reported that Samsung Foundry is expected to supply 3nm wafers to the above-mentioned chipmakers as early as 2024.

It is worth noting that unlike TSMC's 3nm process, Samsung's 3nm process uses a more advanced GAA transistor rather than a fin field effect transistor (FinFET).

It is reported that the 3nm contract price of TSMC has exceeded 20, 000 US dollars. However, due to the company's dominant position in chip manufacturing and the lack of competition in the current 3nm process market, the company will significantly increase the price of its 3nm wafers.
