The reflective screen is equipped with a reflector on the back to provide a light source for reading in sunlight and light. This kind of screen performs well in strong light sources such as outdoor sunlight, but it can't even be read in the case of insufficient light. The transmission screen relies on backlight to provide light. Although it has excellent reading ability in weak light and no light, the backlight in outdoor sunlight is seriously insufficient.
Semi-transparent and semi-reflective display (Transflective display,TRD) technology is actually a kind of display that can be switched before the transmission display mode or reflection display mode according to the change of ambient brightness. The display is realized by using ambient light as the light source in the highlight environment and by using the backlight to provide light source in the dark environment. At the same time, it combines the advantages of reflection display mode, such as energy saving, eye protection, high contrast of highlight environment, high definition of transmission display, fast dynamic response and so on.
CTOnews.com learned that TCL Huaxing has completed the development of TRD technology and can quickly achieve mass production.
At the technical level, TCL Huaxing implements the integrated ambient light sensor inside the panel, which can change the display mode adaptively to the change of ambient brightness without additional process. TCL Huaxing TRD reflection display mode power is 10% of the transmission mode, with ultra-low power display characteristics, compared with the existing PID highlight products, TRD outdoor display power consumption can be reduced by about 90%. In the aspect of dynamic display, compared with the market reflective electronic paper, the TRD response time can reach several ms levels, the dynamic switching effect is better, and there is no ghost problem.
