CTOnews.com8, August 19 (Xinhua)-- Mark Zuckerberg, chairman and CEO of Meta, announced on August 16 that the Horizon Worlds game would be launched in Spain and France, followed by a selfie of himself in the meta-universe: a man with a flat head, big eyes and a smile in front of the Eiffel Tower.

Mark Zuckerberg posted the selfie on Facebook and pointed out that the goal of Horizon Worlds is to conquer more countries. But Twitter users compared screenshots of second Life games in 2007 with Zuckerberg's selfie, and later replied that Zuckerberg's virtual selfie is even worse than the life simulation game launched more than a decade ago.

Even second Life officials have joined in this wave of ridicule. Some people think that the selfie is ugly and the meta-universe looks bad, while others say that the Horizon Worlds is one of the worst products he has ever seen.

In response, Forbes magazine pointed out that "Zuckerberg, who spent 10 billion dollars on meta-universe, will not throw in the towel because others say his selfie is ugly."

CTOnews.com learned that Horizon Worlds is a meta-cosmic platform launched by Meta at the end of 2021 and is currently available on Oculus Rift (S) and Meta Quest 2VR headers. Launched in the UK in June this year, this is the first time that Meta has brought Horizon Worlds to Europe. The game was launched in Ireland and Iceland in July, and now Horizon Worlds is launched in Spain and France.

Meta had previously announced that Horizon Worlds would be launched to a growing number of users in Europe in the coming weeks, while the company said it would create 10000 jobs in Europe to help build its own meta-universe.

Facebook announced in July 2021 that it would form a team to develop meta-universe, and in October it announced that it would invest about $10 billion in the next year to develop the technologies needed to build Horizon Worlds.
