CTOnews.com August 19, August 18, Canonical announced that it has successfully run the Ubuntu operating system on Xingguang single board computer (VisionFive) of Sai Fang Technology.

In 2021, Canonical first introduced Ubuntu that can run on RISC-V processors and hardware. Recently, Canonical and Saifang Technology have partnered to create an enterprise-class Ubuntu image for the VisionFive development board, combining open source software and open source hardware for developers to build a wide range of computer vision applications at the edge.

StarFive, founded in 2018, is a local high-tech company with independent intellectual property rights, providing the world's leading series of RISC-V-based products such as CPU IP, SoC and development boards, and is a leader in China's RISC-V software and hardware ecology, according to officials.

VisionFive is a RISC-V single board computer based on Linux system, which is equipped with JH7100 vision processing chip. The chip uses a dual-core 64-bit high-performance RISC-V CPU with a second-level cache of 2 MB and operates at a frequency of 1.0 GHz.

VisionFive configures 8 GB of LPDDR4 memory, 40-pin GPIO header and end-to-end software and hardware infrastructure to facilitate developers to flexibly configure and deploy peripherals and build a specific application running environment.

CTOnews.com learned that Sai Fang Technology's VisionFive can now use Ubuntu images, and the Sai Fang Technology VisionFive development board is supported by Ubuntu 22.04.1.

Saifang Technology will demonstrate running Ubuntu on the VisionFive development board during the RISC-V China Summit. In addition, Sai Fang Technology's Fang Xingguang 2 single board computer will be released on August 23.
