Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Wu Yanzu in South China for the delivery of clues! CTOnews.com, August 16, Microsoft announced an update plan to disable TLS 1.0 and 1.1 (Transport layer Security Protocol) of WebView controls in Internet Explorer and EdgeHTML (the kernel of older Edge browsers) on September 13, 2022.

Microsoft had planned to phase out TLS 1.0 and 1.1 in October 2018, but later had to change the schedule due to the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020. Now Microsoft is preparing to remove this outdated security standard from its Internet Explorer and older Edge browsers.

CTOnews.com learned that Microsoft did not completely disable TLS 1.0 and 1.1. For compatibility reasons, companies that need to use TLS 1.0 and 1.1 can re-enable them through group policy or in tools > Internet options > Advanced in Internet Explorer.

In addition, Microsoft Edge browsers based on the Chromium kernel have disabled TLS 1.0 and 1.1 as early as Edge 84. Secure Transport layer Protocol (TLS) is used to provide confidentiality and data integrity between two communication applications. The protocol consists of two layers: TLS recording Protocol (TLS Record) and TLS handshake Protocol (TLS Handshake).
