Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com Amazon has recently come under fire from regulators for its strategy of getting consumers to sign up for Prime membership and then setting up barriers to complicate the process of unsubscribing. Amazon changed its cancellation process in Europe last month, but it hasn't changed it yet for its U.S. site.

Since March 2021, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has investigated Amazon. Amazon blames the FTC for making life difficult for its executives by being overly demanding, Business Insider reports.

CTOnews.com has learned that regulatory filings reported in early August showed Amazon was unhappy with the "overly burdensome" demands made by 19 people subpoenaed by the FTC. The 19 people, including former CEO Jeff Bezos and current CEO Andy Jassy, were asked to testify about very detailed details, which Amazon believes "caused a huge burden on them."

Amazon also claims that the only purpose of these unfair demands is to disrupt Amazon's operations and harass its executives, and to ask for delays in some deadlines.

Other complaints filed by Amazon include the FTC bypassing Amazon's legal team to serve individual subpoenas directly. The company also alleges that an employee subpoenaed by the FTC was denied contact with the legal team at all.

As for the next step in the complaint, FTC commissioners will discuss it and then vote on Amazon's request.
