On August 16, total shipments of the world's top five notebook brands (excluding Apple) fell 28 per cent month-on-month and more than 30 per cent from a year earlier, according to the latest data from DIGITIMES Research. This is because the deterioration of the global economy continues to weaken market demand, which in turn leads to a bleak outlook for the industry.

Lenovo is still the largest notebook brand by shipments in July, but suffered the worst month-on-month decline in the top five because of its high base of comparison in June. Hewlett-Packard's monthly shipments fell less than Lenovo, thanks to improved IC supply. Dell had the smallest decline in shipments in the top five in July as its main market, the corporate sector, performed better than average.

Notebook shipments of the top three ODM manufacturers fell by only 11% in July, outperforming the top five terminal brands, because Quanta still had many outstanding orders postponed from the second quarter of 2022 during the blockade in China, according to DIGITIMES Research.
