CTOnews.com, Aug. 16, according to the official news of Howell Technology, the new ultra-small 200-megapixel image sensor with a pixel size of only 0.56 microns of OVB0A-- was released today.

According to reports, OVB0A is specially designed for high-end smartphone rear (wide-angle) camera. With its unique 16-in-one pixel merging function, OVB0A provides excellent low-light performance. In addition, the image sensor has a 100% quadruple phase detection (QPD) function for fast and accurate autofocus.

Officials say OVB0A's 0.56m pixel is not only the world's first pixel smaller than the wavelength of red light, but its QPD and quantum efficiency (QE) performance are comparable to those of the previous generation of 0.61um pixels. Using Howie's PureCelPlus-S wafer stacking technology, it is possible to maintain extremely high resolution in a smaller 0.56 micron pixel size, encapsulating 200 megapixels into a 1.4inch optical structure.

In addition, the selective conversion gain of the OVB0A sensor achieves the best balance between low light image quality and high dynamic range (HDR), allowing smartphone manufacturers to optimize HDR performance for bright and dark areas with strong contrast in any scene. The image sensor also uses 16-in-one pixel merging to achieve 1250 megapixels / 4K high-quality video capture at 120 frames per second. It can shoot 1250 megapixel / 4K video at a frame rate of 60 frames per second and provides second exposure interlaced HDR timing options. The on-chip pixel reduction algorithm can achieve 8K video with 1250 megapixels and 2x cut zoom (with HDR).

CTOnews.com has learned that the OVB0A image sensor supports CPHY, DPHY and dual DOVDD (1.8V and 1.2V), and samples will be available in the fourth quarter of 2022.
