Phoenix New Media Technology News August 16 news, famous Tesla critic Dan Odod (Dan O'Dowd) released a video last week shows that Tesla repeatedly bumped into dummies the size of children. As soon as the video went viral on social media, angry Tesla fans refuted criticism by testing Tesla's fully automated driving (FSD) system with real children.
Omar Cage, who runs Tesla's fan account @ WholeMarsBlog, was eager to refute Dan Odod's test results, hoping to prove that he was "lying about life-saving technology" and then posted an open letter on Twitter asking San Francisco parents to bring their children to test the software.
Tesla fan Omar Karch released a test video on Sunday, saying that if Tesla doesn't brake in time, he will take over manually to ensure safety.
Ted Parker, CEO of Volte Equity, took part in the test with his two children.
"I am confident that I can give my child to FSD, and I am also in control of the steering wheel, so I can brake at any time," Parker stressed in the video.
During the test, Parker's daughter stood in the middle of the road, and Tesla FSD seemed to identify the child who was motionless outside three cars. In the video, the car drives forward and stops at a speed of five miles per hour until the child is out of its trajectory.
Parker then took a similar test with his five-year-old son. When Tesla came from the same distance at a speed of less than 10 miles an hour, the boy walked across the street. At this time, Tesla's speed seemed to slow down until the child crossed the road.
"I was a little nervous at first, but I knew it was very important that Tesla could identify the child and stop the car. I think it will save a lot of children's lives," Parker said in the video.
Several tests in the video show that the FSD system can identify dummies and an adult man in the middle of the road. However, the test never exceeded the speed of about 20 miles per hour. For comparison, Tesla's critics had previously tested at a speed of about 40 miles per hour.
Cage is not the only fan of Tesla who took the test. After the video was released, several FSD drivers took to the streets to verify whether the system could identify child-sized dummies, with different test results.
It is worth noting that none of these tests were conducted under the supervision of US regulators, which means that they are not subject to the same testing standards.
