DRAM industry revenue reached $25.59 billion in the second quarter of 2022, up 6.5% quarterly, according to the latest survey released by TrendForce today (15).

TrendForce pointed out that the growth momentum of revenue in the second quarter came from the growth of some DRAM suppliers. Although the demand for PC and mobile DRAM began to decrease due to inflation impact, the momentum of serverDRAM remained strong in the first half of the year, driving the quarterly increase of the three original manufacturers to reach 5-10%.

In terms of revenue, Samsung, SK Hynix, Micron three original revenue growth, Samsung, SK these two Korean manufacturers together have 70.9% market share; Micron benefited from server and vehicle demand, the second quarter revenue reached 6.27 billion US dollars, a quarterly increase of 9.7%, the highest increase among the three major manufacturers. Driven by revenue growth, the profitability of the three manufacturers increased slightly, with Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron reaching 50%, 43% and 41.5% respectively.

Looking forward to the third quarter, TrendForce believes that due to the further increase in original inventory pressure, the price decline will be significantly expanded, while the shipping end will be difficult to grow due to customer inventory adjustment, and the revenue of the three manufacturers is likely to fall.

In terms of capacity planning, South Asia focuses on the field of Consumer DRAM. Due to the impact of the sealing policy on the demand of the mainland of China, the shipment volume decreases significantly, the overall revenue decreases by 14.0% in the quarter, and the output in the third quarter is expected to increase only slightly.

LSMC's revenue mainly comes from DRAM products, excluding DRAM foundry business. Due to the impact of the company's capacity allocation, DRAM revenue grew by about 21.8%, and revenue in the third quarter is expected to decrease by 1.0%.

Winbond's revenue decreased slightly by 3.3%, mainly due to Netcom customers adjusting inventory and TV manufacturers suspending supply, resulting in reduced shipments. At present, Winbond Kaohsiung Plant in China Taiwan is in the process of machine assembly, and will be fully put into production of 25Snm. The next generation of 20nm process is expected to be mass produced in mid-2023, which is expected to effectively drive its revenue growth.
