CTOnews.com8 March 15 news, market research firm Strategy Analytics previously released a report that Samsung shipped 62.5 million units worldwide in the second quarter of this year, with a market share of 21.5%, a year-on-year increase of 9.5%. Although this is Samsung's Q2 performance with the highest market share since 2020, it is reported today that Samsung has cut its mobile phone shipments this year.

According to THE ELEC, a source said that Samsung lowered its target for mobile phone shipments this year to 260 million units, which is less than Samsung's 270 million handsets shipped last year and a negative growth compared with the same period last year.

Affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, Samsung's mobile phone shipments plummeted to 250 million units in 2020. After successfully shipping 270 million phones in 2021, Samsung initially planned to ship 334 million phones this year. Among them, Samsung produces 284 million units and co-produces 50 million units with China's Wentai and Huaqin (JDM).

Samsung lowered its target for shipments this year mainly because uncertainty in the global economy has led consumers to be more cautious about spending. At present, except for the relatively strong shipments of Apple's iPhone, the shipments of other mobile phone manufacturers have suffered varying degrees of setbacks.

According to reports, Samsung had planned to produce 60 million phones in the first quarter, 53 million phones in the second quarter and 47 million phones in the third quarter. But Samsung actually produced only 48 million units in the second quarter of this year and will cut production in the third quarter to 46 million.

Samsung has not yet decided on fourth-quarter production. But sources say Samsung plans to produce 34 million phones in October and November. This number is lower than 40 million in 2020 and 37 million in 2021. In December, Samsung will start production of its new flagship Galaxy S23 series.

As a result, Samsung expects to produce 190 million phones in the first 11 months of this year, plus production in December, and Samsung is expected to produce just over 200m of its own this year. For reference, Samsung will produce 210 million units in 2020 and 238.88 million in 2021.

With inventory produced by Samsung last year and phones jointly produced by Samsung and Chinese companies, Samsung is expected to ship 260 million units this year. Among them, shipments ranged from 69 million to 71 million units in the first quarter and 62 million in the second quarter.

In contrast, Apple's iPhone shipments and market share have increased compared with the same period last year, and it is predicted that Apple's iPhone 14 series production will be higher than originally planned.

CTOnews.com learned that Samsung released two folding screen phones, the Galaxy Z Flip4 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4, on August 10. According to market research firm Omdia, global shipments of folding screen phones this year are 11 million.

In addition, Apple plans to produce 90 million iPhone 14 series phones by the end of this year.
