According to GWN, the well-known research institution Gartner updated its forecast for the wafer foundry industry a few days ago, pointing out that the utilization rate of foundry capacity will decline quarter by quarter from the second quarter of this year, mainly due to the continuous release of new capacity supply and the decline in consumer demand for terminal electronic products.

Gartner predicts that after global shipments of equivalent 8-inch wafers reached 2200 million in the fourth quarter of last year, quarterly shipments this year and next will fluctuate between 2200 and 2300 million, while production capacity will continue to grow to 28 million wafers (equivalent 8 inches) per quarter by the end of last year.

As the gap between capacity and shipments widens, Gartner believes that wafer foundry capacity utilization will fall to 90.3% in the third quarter of this year, 86.5% in the fourth quarter, and about 80% by the end of next year.
