According to the Nikkei News, Monica Duhem Delgado, head of the global economic intelligence department of the Mexican Economic Secretariat, said a few days ago that after the introduction of the chip bill by the United States, Mexico will benefit from relevant incentives, and that the country will provide Intel and other enterprises with low-cost production bases in North America, especially in packaging and testing, the latter part of chip manufacturing. Mexico is expected to play a greater role.
Duhem said that the cost of production in the United States is significantly higher than in Mexico, and the Economic Secretariat, together with the country's Finance Secretariat, is designating incentives for the semiconductor industry to attract the landing of related projects, which may include tax breaks. Duhem revealed that the official goal is to launch its semiconductor industry support package next year.
At present, chip companies, including Intel, Texas Instruments and Skyworks, have business layouts in Mexico. Duhem also revealed that Texas Instruments and Intel have indicated their intention to increase their investment.
