CTOnews.com8, March 15 (Xinhua)-- Microsoft recently defended its acquisition of Activision Blizzard in front of Brazil's antitrust law enforcement agency (CADE). In court documents, Microsoft said Sony's PS4 game console sold twice as much as Microsoft's Xbox One.

Sony has overtaken Microsoft in game console sales, and the previous generation of game console PS4 sold more than twice as much as Xbox One, according to Microsoft's court filing, page 18 (paragraph 46).

As early as January 2022, Sony said it had sold more than 116 million PS4 game consoles worldwide, compared with a total of 117.2 million recently, making it the most successful game console after PS2 (155 million).

Microsoft has refused to report sales of its game consoles since 2015, saying it is not a "key indicator of success" that they like to focus on. But sales of Microsoft's Xbox One game consoles can be estimated from the court documents to be between 5000 and 60 million.

In addition, the court documents also showed that Microsoft wanted to promote a "player-centric" Xbox Game Pass rather than directly compete with Sony's PS5, and Microsoft refuted the claim that the inclusion of Activision Blizzard's content in the Xbox Game Pass game catalog would represent a turning point in the market.

CTOnews.com learned that Microsoft also hinted in the document that Xbox is unlikely to compete successfully with Sony in the current or next cycle because of brand loyalty, because "PlayStation has a stronger market position."
