CTOnews.com, August 15, the latest report from Strategy Analytics shows that revenue from the consumer AR terminal market tripled between 2020 and 2021. Nreal is an early leader in this area, with a market share of 75 per cent of shipments in 2021, rising to 81 per cent in the first half of 2022.

Strategy Analytics predicts that the global market for dedicated AR head display devices will ship nearly 60 million units by 2027. David MacQueen, executive director of Strategy Analytics and author of the report, said: "between 2020 and 2021, shipments of consumer-grade AR head-display devices increased by 161% compared with the same period last year. Over the same period, revenue growth of consumer-grade AR head-display devices exceeded the overall market, growing by more than 300% year-on-year."

The report says the consumer-grade AR market is driven by newcomer Nreal, which finds the best balance between price ($599) and functionality. Nreal was founded in 2017, and by 2020, the company accounted for 30% of the market share of consumer AR head display devices by shipments and 51% of revenue. Nreal's share of consumer AR terminal shipments reached 75% in 2021, and its market share rose to 81% in the first half of 2022, occupying a strong position in the early consumer AR market. One of the reasons for this market position is that, through its technical approach, Nreal has reduced the price of AR hardware to a level acceptable to consumers. At present, the company operates all over the world and cooperates with eight operators in seven countries on three continents.

CTOnews.com learned that Nreal, which specializes in AR, was founded in January 2017, and Nreal's website said that with AR technology, enhanced digital images can be superimposed on the real world. Based on this, users can wear two of Nreal's glasses products, Light or Air, to access AR applications such as games or movies. It is worth mentioning that on March 30 this year, Nreal announced the completion of a $60 million round of C + financing, led by Alibaba. In addition, Weilai Motor, Kuaishou and iqiyi are also investors in Nreal.
