CTOnews.com8, March 13, the latest data from market research firm Mercury Research show that shipments of desktop processors in the second quarter of 2022 hit a nearly 30-year low, down more than 15% from a year earlier.

Some time ago, Intel reported a second-quarter loss, but on the other side, AMD's second-quarter revenue rose 70% from a year earlier, and its market share in mobile laptops, desktops, servers and the x86 market as a whole continued to grow. In terms of x86 processor market share, AMD's market share has increased to 31.4%, 3.7% month-on-month and 8.9% year-on-year, while Intel's market share has fallen below 70% for the first time, making the competition between the two companies more intense.

In the segment, AMD's share of desktop PC processors rose to 20.6 per cent in the second quarter, up 2.3 per cent from a month earlier and 3.5 per cent year-on-year.

In the mobile notebook market, the share of AMD increased to 24.8%, up 2.3% from the previous month, and 4.8% from the same period last year.

In the server market, AMD's share reached 13.9%, an increase of 2.3% month-on-month and 4.4% year-on-year.

CTOnews.com learned that McCullen said the decline in shipments was due to the current economic slowdown, which caused PC manufacturers to stop ordering new chips, but the recession hit Intel much harder than AMD.

On July 29, Intel announced its results for the second quarter of fiscal 2022: Intel's revenue fell about 22% year-on-year, with a net loss of $454 million, down 109% from a year earlier. Intel shares fell nearly 9% after the close, and its market capitalization was surpassed by AMD.
