CTOnews.com8, March 13, with the continuous development of science and technology, the concept of "intelligent fire fighting" has emerged in recent years. "Intelligent Fire fighting" aims to minimize the risk and impact of fire by using the latest technologies such as the Internet of things, artificial intelligence, virtual reality and mobile Internet +.

Recently, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and foreign research institutions have published a new study on the use of artificial intelligence to accomplish fire protection tasks. According to the study, the most frightening thing in a fire is not a burning fire, but a flash that is difficult to detect in advance.

Flash is a fatal fire phenomenon, which means that almost all combustibles in the environment suddenly catch fire, which makes it impossible for firefighters on fire-fighting tasks to avoid. Although firefighters try to identify flashes through black smoke and high temperatures, flashes are still difficult to predict.

To this end, the research group developed a predictive neural model called FlashNet. In more than 41000 digital fire simulation tests, the model predicted the occurrence of flashover 30 seconds in advance, and the accuracy was as high as 92.1%. Therefore, through this artificial intelligence technology, firefighters will be able to predict flashover in advance. This will effectively improve the safety of firefighters when fighting a fire, and may be able to save the lives of firefighters at critical moments.

However, the researchers say there is still a long way to go before the neural model can be put into practical use. Next, the researchers will conduct a field test and put it into practical application as soon as possible.

CTOnews.com learned that the study was published in the journal artificial Intelligence Engineering applications and can be viewed here.
