CTOnews.com August 12 news, Germany's BMW (BMW) will begin mass production of fuel cell vehicles (FCV) jointly developed by Toyota in the field of environmentally friendly vehicles as early as 2025.

Peter Nota, senior vice president of BMW, said in an interview with Nikkei that BMW would start pilot production of its hydrogen fuel cell vehicle (FCV) by the end of 2022, continue to promote the construction of a network of hydrogenation stations, and plan to start mass production and public sale after 2025.

BMW unveiled the SUV FCV "iX5 Hydrogen" concept car at the Munich International Motor Show in September 2021, and will start trial production by the end of 2022, and plans to start mass production and sale after 2025, he said. Peter Notta also stressed that "FCV has a high affinity with large SUV."

Peter Notta said that Toyota is still promoting plans related to fuel cell vehicles and hopes to cooperate with Toyota in areas other than FCV in the future.

CTOnews.com learned that BMW iX5 Hydrogen made its debut at the 2021 Munich Motor Show. BMW officials say the BMW iX5 Hydrogen will be the most efficient PHEV plug-in hybrid in BMW's history.

The biggest difference between the BMW iX5 Hydrogen and the ordinary version of the BMW X5 is that it has a similar design to the iX3 pure electric car.

BMW is equipped with two "hydrogen tanks" made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic to store the hydrogen needed for driving at the pressure of 700Bar, with a maximum storage weight of about 6Kg.

It is worth mentioning that hydrogen fuel cell vehicles have obvious advantages in replenishing energy. it takes only 3-4 minutes to fill up the hydrogen tank at a time, which is even shorter than that of traditional models.

In addition, the BMW iX5 Hydrogen prototype is equipped with a fifth-generation BMW motor, and the motor on the rear axle can provide the power of the 125kW, with a combined maximum power of 275KW, and the overall power level is comparable to that of a BMW X5 with an in-line six-cylinder engine, or even higher torque.
