By the end of June this year, the number of 5G network base stations in China reached 1.854 million, with more than 450 million terminal users, accounting for more than 60% of the world. The investment of 5G by national operators exceeded 400 billion yuan.

5G is accelerating the digital economy. According to statistics, the accumulated investment of 5G by operators nationwide is as high as 401.6 billion yuan. In addition to consumption of mobile traffic and mobile phone information services, the accumulated direct and indirect economic output reaches 8.56 trillion yuan, and the economic added value reaches 2.79 trillion yuan.

At the meeting, Vice Minister of Science and Technology Xiang Libin said that after more than three years of cultivation and development, 5G industry-level application has completed the breakthrough from 0 to 1, and 5G commercial use has entered a virtuous circle. With the deepening of 5G commercial process, 5G technology will empower all walks of life and form a cross-industry integrated 5G ecosystem.

The industry expects that by the end of 2022, the number of global 5G connections will reach about 1.2 billion, doubling year-on-year. With the deepening of 5G commercialization, 5G technology will promote mobile Internet cloud computing, big data artificial intelligence Internet of Things and other key technology fields to empower all walks of life, forming a cross-industry integrated 5G ecosystem.

At present, China has built large-scale and high-quality network infrastructure, and the development of 5G is changing from large-scale network construction to accelerated application promotion. Based on the long-term development needs, China will continue to adhere to the moderately advanced 5G construction policy, continuously improve the depth and breadth of 5G network coverage, and realize on-demand construction and deep coverage around industry application scenarios and hot spots. Support the integration and development of 5G with vertical industries such as industry, energy, medical care, education and agriculture.

In a word, due to the difficulty and long period of the project, the construction of 5G network cannot be accomplished overnight. At the initial stage of network construction, the scheme of "one-step planning and step-by-step implementation" can be adopted according to the actual situation of the covered area to reasonably control the construction rhythm. In the process of 5G construction, we should make full use of the current favorable policies, focus on overcoming key constraints such as difficult site selection, difficult access, and expensive electricity charges. At the same time, operators can also consider co-construction and sharing of base stations to reduce the site selection problems and overall costs of 5G networks.
