Phoenix New Media Science and Technology News Beijing time August 12 news, Generation Z (post-95) Internet usage is rising, but their rate of using Facebook is declining rapidly. A study of American teenagers, technology and social media by the Pew Research Center found that only 32 per cent of teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17 use Facebook. By contrast, in the 2014-2015 survey, the figure was 71%, beating platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat.
Jules Terpak is a Generation Z content creator whose content covers digital culture. She says teenagers no longer think Facebook is valuable. " There are now more than five powerful social media platforms that can scroll endlessly, and our brains cannot distinguish our relationships from all of them. nor can we give priority to our relationship with them, "Tepak said in an email." in order to save time and think rationally, people must eliminate platforms that are beginning to lack value-added incentives. "
Although teenagers are tired of Facebook, they have not given up on Instagram, another social platform owned by Meta. The survey found that 62 per cent of teenagers used Instagram, up from 52 per cent in the 2014-2015 survey. However, TikTok was not even released in the last study, and 67 per cent of American teenagers now use it, higher than Instagram and Snapchat (59 per cent).
It's worth noting that 95% of teenagers say they use YouTube, which may make the Google video platform look like a dominant social platform. However, many users interact with the platform only to watch videos, not as a place to connect with others online. For example, this includes teenagers who use YouTube to listen to music.
In another frequency survey, TikTok still received more attention among teenagers than any platform other than YouTube. Nineteen percent of teenagers said they were using YouTube "almost always". TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat received "almost constant attention" from 16%, 10% and 15% of teenagers, respectively. Only 2% of people use Facebook in this way.
