CTOnews.com, August 11 (Xinhua) in the seven months of 2022, the number of daily active users of Russian social networks Facebook and Instagram, banned in Russia, decreased by 80% and nearly 40%, respectively, Forbes Russia said, citing data from Mediascope Research. Telegram has become the main winner of the Russian ban.

Mediascope data covers the population of Russia aged 12 and above, and all conversations are taken into account in the calculation, including the situation in which users enter the social network and exit immediately because of App blocking, so the real user data can be counted more accurately.

The data show that the number of Instagram users fell by 21.5% in March-from 37.8 million in February to 30 million, followed by a decline of 14.2 million in April. By July, the average number of daily users accessing Instagram was 10.6 million.

If you only look at users who last for more than five minutes, that is, data that can be accessed normally, the number of Instagram users has declined even faster-- 41% from February to March, from 28.9 million to 16.9 million users. From March to April, the number of visitors to Instagram dropped to 6 million. By July, Instagram had an average of only 5.5 million daily active users in Russia.

The number of Facebook users has decreased by nearly 80%. The number fell from about 9 million in February to 1.9 million in July. In terms of users with more than five-minute sessions, the number of users was 2.7 million in February, up from 305000 in July.

On the other hand, the average number of daily users of Telegram Messenger increased by 66%, from 25 million in January to 41.5 million in July. CTOnews.com learned that data showed that the number of Telegram users soared from 27.5 million to 40.6 million after Russia banned Meta in March.
