Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
On November 23, according to foreign media reports, affected by the decline in demand for consumer electronic products, the demand and prices of memory chips also declined, affecting the revenue of a number of manufacturers. Samsung Electronics, the largest memory chip manufacturer, saw a sharp drop in revenue in memory chips in the third quarter compared with the same period last year, resulting in a decline in their overall net profit.
The latest data from research institutions show that revenue from the memory chip business has fallen sharply, causing Samsung Electronics to cease to be the top semiconductor seller in the world in the third quarter.
Revenue from Samsung's semiconductor business was $14.6 billion in the third quarter, down from $20.3 billion in the previous quarter and down 28.1% from the previous quarter, according to data released by the research institute.
Samsung Electronics, whose revenue fell 28.1% from the previous quarter, also ceded the top spot in global semiconductor sales to Intel in the third quarter. Intel's third-quarter revenue also fell sharply from a year earlier, but its semiconductor revenue of $14.851 billion was only slightly lower than the $14.865 billion in the previous quarter and higher than Samsung's $14.6 billion.
SK Hynix, which is also a big manufacturer of memory chips with Samsung Electronics, was also significantly affected in the third quarter. The agency's data show that their revenue from semiconductors fell to $7.967 billion from $10.792 billion in the previous quarter, down 26.2% from the previous quarter, and sales were also surpassed by Qualcomm, falling from the third highest semiconductor manufacturer by sales to the fourth. Qualcomm's semiconductor sales rose 5.6% in the third quarter from a month earlier to $9.904 billion, ranking third.
SK Hynix was followed by Broadcom, whose sales of semiconductors rose 5.9 per cent to $6.946 billion in the third quarter from $6.561 billion in the previous quarter.
