Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
FIFA will bring video assistant referees back to the World Cup in 2022 and VAR will be used in Qatar. The competition will also see the debut of semi-automatic offside technology.
The VAR system first appeared at the 2018 World Cup, when France won their second championship in Russia. FIFA President Gianni Invantino (Gianni Infantino) called the launch a success and worked with a range of partners to further enhance the technology as part of Vision 2020-23.
As part of the improvements that FIFA introduced to VAR ahead of the World Cup in Qatar, including the use of a semi-automatic offside system. FIFA announced in July that the technology would make its debut at the championships to be held in November and December.
01. What is VAR? The VAR was launched in Russia four years ago and will continue to be used at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Invantino announced that the technique was the end of an offside goal in 2018. VAR officials used it to review more than 440 events in the first 62 games of the Moscow final.
"the word is progress, it's better than ever," Infantino said in 2018, citing business standards. "VAR will not change football, VAR is cleaning football, making football more honest and transparent, and helping referees make the right decisions."
France was the first country to benefit from the use of VAR at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Referee Andries Cunha (Andres Cunha) awarded Les Bleus a penalty in the 58th minute, their first match against Australia in Group C. France also won a penalty kick against Croatia through VAR in the final.
Invantino also said that at the 2018 World Cup, the VAR accuracy of referees rose from 95% to 99.2%. It will be launched in any major European league that has not used the technology before Russia's success. Some leagues started using VAR before 2018.
The Bundesliga and Serie A have introduced VAR technology in 2017. La Liga is closely followed by the World Cup in Russia, while Spain's top leagues have been using VAR since the 19th season in 2018. The Premier League did not use VAR technology until the 20th season in 2019.
02. How will the semi-automatic offside technology work? FIFA's use of VAR at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be different from that of the Premier League, with the addition of a semi-automatic offside system. The new element uses 12 dedicated cameras that will track the ball and all players to calculate their exact position on the court.
Each camera installed under the roof of the stadium will receive 50 strongholds per second. They focus on 29 data points, including each limb of each player and the limbs needed for offside. The game ball will also provide a key element.
Adidas created Al Rihla as the official match ball for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The ball will help officials make strict offside decisions because it has an inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensor at its core. IMU provides 500 data per second to the VAR control room.
By combining artificial intelligence with limb and ball tracking techniques, the system will automatically alert VAR officials to be offside. The notice will be sent the moment the player receives possession of the ball and the player is in an offside position when he initially plays the ball.
VAR will then use the automatically selected kick point to review the offside call and notify the referee on the spot. If confirmed, the decision will be generated from the clearest point of view into a 3D animation that shows the position of any player at the time of the ball.
03. Can fans see the results of semi-automatic offside technology? VAR officials will play offside animation in the stadium and provide it to each broadcast partner. FIFA expects the semi-automatic offside process to last a few seconds to provide faster and more accurate decisions. It has tested the process in the activity.
FIFA has tested semi-automatic offside techniques in the 2021 Arabian Cup and the 2021 Club World Cup. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sports Lab, TRACK of the University of Victoria and the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich analyzed and verified data collected by FIFA in its online and offline technical trials.
Invantino believes that the use of semi-automatic offside system at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is an evolution of VAR. The President of FIFA further believes that this is the most obvious example of the work done by regulatory bodies to promote the use of football technology.
"at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, FIFA took a brave step in using VAR technology on the world's largest stage, which proved to be an undisputed success," he told the FIFA website in July. Semi-automatic offside technology is the evolution of VAR systems that have been implemented around the world.
"this technology is the best part of three years of dedicated research and testing, designed to provide the best service to teams, players and fans who travel to Qatar later this year, and FIFA is proud of this work, as we look forward to the world seeing the benefits of semi-automatic offside technology at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
"FIFA is committed to using technology to improve football matches at all levels, and the use of semi-automatic offside technology at the 2022 FIFA World Cup is the clearest evidence."
