In terms of water supply, South Korea's second-largest memory chip maker has faced challenges in terms of water supply for the semiconductor cluster they plan to build in the South Korean city of Longren.

SK Hynix has previously announced its decision to invest 120 trillion won to build a semiconductor industry cluster in Longren City, and plans to pump 265000 tons of water a day from the Nanhan River near Lizhou City for production at the plant.

In order to promote the construction of the plant, SK Hynix also asked Lizhou City for approval to build an industrial water plant in May 2021, but the process was postponed due to lack of agreement with Lizhou City.

SK Hynix and Lizhou failed to reach an agreement on pumping and building industrial water plants because Lizhou thought that the water plants near the industrial park and the semiconductor cluster of SK Hynix in Longren had brought inconvenience to local residents. Lizhou also believed that many measures in water resources conservation had hindered the development of the city. Lizhou asked SK Hynix to solve the related inconveniences and promote the development of the local economy.

The latest foreign media reports show that the water supply problem of SK Hynix Longren semiconductor cluster was finally solved on Monday local time. South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, SK Hynix, Lizhou and other relevant parties have reached an agreement. South Korea has relaxed some restrictions and expanded sewage treatment facilities in Lizhou, and Lizhou has also agreed to SK Hynix pumping.
