CTOnews.com, Nov. 22, Omdia released a report today that LTPO-AMOLED for smartphones will grow 94% year-on-year by the end of 2022. In the depressed smartphone display panel market, shipments will maintain 25% year-on-year growth in 2023.

According to the report, demand for smartphone display panels fell to 1.425 billion in 2022, down 18% from the same period last year. This is due to the expected recovery of the epidemic market after 2021, the high inventory of display panels due to overpurchasing, and the low consumption under global inflation in 2022. Mobile phone panel shipments suffered a double whammy.

According to reports, in the smartphone display panel market, the low-temperature polysilicon LTPO-AMOLED (flexible) of flexible substrates is expected to increase significantly to 148 million in 2022, an increase of 94% over the same period last year, while the low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) LCD, including rigid and flexible low-temperature polysilicon (TFT), will drop to 440 million, down 19% from the same period last year. TFT LCD will drop by 836 million and 26% compared with the same period last year.

CTOnews.com has learned that Omdia analysts say the strong demand for the iPhone 14 Pro series, which uses a low-power LTPO-AMOLED and provides longer battery life and added value for off-screen displays, has helped boost LTPO-AMOLED shipments.

Speaking of 2023, Omdia expects the smartphone display panel market to grow slightly to 1.462 billion pieces, up 3% from a year earlier. The total TFT LCD shipment level was 816 million, down 2% from the same period last year. Total shipments of LTPO-AMOLED are expected to increase to 4.6 million, an increase of 4% over the same period last year; only LTPS shipments are expected to grow to 186 million, up 25% from the same period last year.
