CTOnews.com, November 22 (Xinhua)-- Nintendo recently issued a Digital Millennium copyright Act (DMCA) request to the SteamGridDB (SGDB) website to remove Nintendo-copyrighted image resources.

CTOnews.com learned that SGDB mainly hosts fan customization, icons (icon) and image resources that represent the front-end interface of Steam. Since its inception in 2015, the site has collected hundreds of thousands of images from thousands of games, including many custom images of standard Steam games and simulation games ROM, which can be added to Steam as "external games".

In an interview with Ars Technica, a SGDB administrator (anonymous) said: "We do not support any form of piracy. The site is just a free repository where people can share options to customize their game initiators."

In a DMCA request released on October 27, Nintendo said some images on SGDB showed Nintendo's trademark and other intellectual property rights (including game characters), which could confuse consumers. As a result, dozens of SGDB images have been replaced with blank images with the words "the asset has been removed in response to the DMCA removal request".

SGDB administrators said they were "not at all surprised" by Nintendo's DMCA request, adding that they had "received some from other publishers in the past and complied with it accordingly." However, when pressed, the administrator did not disclose how many DMCA requests the site has received since its inception in 2015.
