CTOnews.com, November 22, according to Boeing's latest World Air cargo Forecast for 2022 (WACF), the demand for air cargo services will remain strong in the next 20 years, the global air cargo volume will double, and the cargo fleet will grow by more than 60%.

CTOnews.com learned that Boeing updates its WACF every two years, providing detailed analysis of industry dynamics. According to WACF in 2022, the global cargo fleet will need nearly 2800 original and modified freighters between now and 2041 to meet the needs of industry growth and replacement of old models.

Boeing said air cargo volumes would more than double during the forecast period and carriers would need to switch to more capable, fuel-efficient and sustainable aircraft to meet market demand. 1/3 of the delivery volume will be made up of newly produced original freighters, and the remaining 2/3 will be made up of modified freighters.

WACF's important views on the air cargo market over the next 20 years in 2022 also include:

The Asia-Pacific region will receive nearly 40 per cent of all freighters, including original and modified freighters.

Freighters account for 8% of the total civil aviation fleet, but will continue to carry more than half of the air cargo, with the rest carried by the belly of passenger aircraft.

In the next 20 years, the global cargo aircraft fleet will have a net increase of more than 1300 to more than 3600.
