CTOnews.com November 22, Flighty is a popular flight tracking app on the Apple App Store. In a recent update, Flighty takes full advantage of Live Activities on iOS 16 and iPhone 14 Pro models, allowing iPhone to track flight movements while in flight.

CTOnews.com has learned that Flighty in this update will be able to download real and live data using free Wi-Fi on board, so you can view it even when your iPhone is in flight mode, and you don't have to pay for premium Wi-Fi on board.

Ryan Jones of Flighty explains that most of the free Wi-Fi offered by American airlines allows iMessage to be used for free. The Live Activities feature in iOS 16.1 was updated using the same protocol as iMessage. As a result, Flighty can use the free Wi-Fi available on board to update real-time flight dynamics. This data can then be passed on to the full Flighty application as well.

CTOnews.com learned that Apple, through the new Live Activities API, can set notifications to display custom content, automatic updates, such as dynamic viewing of game scores, taxi trips, etc., as well as control music playback, full-screen display of album images, etc.
