Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, November 21, according to China Mobile Research Institute, recently, China Mobile Research Institute, together with Huawei, completed the outfield verification of 4.9GHz large-scale sky array AAU in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.

The verification results show that the innovative product has been significantly improved in terms of coverage distance, edge rate, net-pulling rate and site capacity, which opens up a practical innovative research direction for the high-performance applications of 5G higher frequency band represented by 4.9GHz.

CTOnews.com learned that in recent years, China Mobile's 5G network construction has been steadily advancing, forming a hierarchical and differentiated three-dimensional coverage based on 700MHz, 2.6GHz and 4.9GHz. Among them, 700MHz has the strongest transmission capacity, which is mainly used for 5G wide area bottoming; 2.6GHz has a larger bandwidth, mainly carrying 5G capacity in areas above the county and city level; and 4.9GHz is generally used for high-capacity supplement in communication hot spots. Compared with 700MHz and 2.6GHz bands, the most obvious disadvantage of 4.9GHz is that its frequency is higher, resulting in larger spatial propagation loss and penetration loss, and its coverage ability is obviously weaker than that of lower frequency bands. Therefore, how to improve the 4.9GHz coverage ability, so as to improve the user speed and capacity, has always been a difficult problem for the industry.

▲ chart from China Mobile Research Institute, although compared with other 5G mainstream spectrum such as 700MHz, 2.6GHz, 3.5GHz, etc., 4.9GHz has larger propagation loss and weaker coverage, but at the same time, the electromagnetic wavelength corresponding to higher frequency is shorter, which makes the physical size of the same number of antenna vibrators and AAU skyline relatively smaller, which is beneficial to improve its signal propagation performance by expanding the size of antenna vibrators.

Through the comparative analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of 4.9GHz band, China Mobile Research Institute put forward the AAU design idea of "maintaining the number of baseband channels, making full use of sky resources, greatly increasing the number of antenna vibrators, and improving beam gain in order to combat propagation loss and enhance coverage". Based on this idea, China Mobile Research Institute and Huawei developed a product prototype, carried out outfield pilot verification in the downtown district of Hangzhou, and measured the effect of 5G coverage enhancement.

The pilot results of ▲ map from China Mobile Research Institute show that, compared with 4.9GHz traditional specification AAU, the coverage distance of the new product is increased by more than 20%, the cell edge rate is increased by about 60%, and the average rate of single user is increased by more than 30%, while the power consumption of the whole machine remains unchanged. The overall network performance is significantly improved, especially for remote and edge users. Buildings are more penetrating, and outdoor macro stations can achieve deeper indoor user coverage and capacity absorption.
