Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, November 21, according to Yonhap, the Korean Ministry of Science and Technology Information and Communications (Ministry of Science and Technology) held the fifth meeting of the Special Committee on carbon Neutralization Technology today to consider and adopt the carbon Neutralization Technology Innovation Strategy Roadmap, which is a follow-up measure to the carbon-neutral Green growth Technology Innovation Strategy published by the 2050 carbon-neutral Green growth Committee launched last month.

According to the roadmap, South Korea will build the world's largest carbon dioxide repository at home, increase hydrogen supply and expand the use of zero-emission fuels.

In terms of carbon dioxide capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), the South Korean government will implement a comprehensive demonstration project in the East China Sea gas fields to achieve annual carbon dioxide storage of 4 million tons by 2030 and 15 million tons by 2050.

CTOnews.com Science Popularization: CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) is a technology for capturing and storing carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide produced by industry and related energy industries can be separated by carbon capture technology, and then transported and stored in places isolated from the atmosphere, such as the sea floor or underground, by means of carbon storage.

South Korea's Ministry of Science and Technology said: "it plans to move towards a country that operates the world's largest storage." At the same time, they also decided to collect large amounts of carbon dioxide economically and store it safely, or use it as a product of economic value.

In terms of hydrogen production and supply, the South Korean government will provide support for the research and development of technologies such as mass storage and long-distance gas transportation, and strive to achieve the goal of producing and supplying hydrogen energy of 1.94 million tons by 2030 and 29.7 million tons by 2050. so as to expand the hydrogen production capacity related to renewable energy in a phased manner.

To this end, South Korea plans to select the best green hydrogen production model through small-scale demonstration of various ways by 2025, and promote commercial-grade demonstration in 2028, as well as develop technologies such as large-capacity storage, long-distance transportation, domestic unloading and supply, introduce clean hydrogen produced from abroad into China, and improve gas transportation technology to spread hydrogen on a large scale, and ensure hydrogen dedicated high-strength pipeline network.

In terms of hydrogen-powered vehicles, the South Korean government strives to promote 4.5 million hydrogen-powered vehicles by 2030, demonstrating the next generation of battery vehicles and developing technologies to prevent battery fires.

In addition, South Korea plans to expand ammonia hybrid power generation to 3.6% of total power generation by 2030 and hydrogen-powered carbon-free gas turbines to 21.5% by 2050.
