CTOnews.com, Nov. 21 (Xinhua)-- the NASA James Webb Space Telescope has discovered one of the earliest galaxies to form after the Big Bang, which appeared 350 million years after the birth of the universe, making it the earliest galaxy ever discovered.

The galaxy, called GLASS-z12, broke the previous record. Since Weber's infrared survey of the universe, it was discovered this summer that a galaxy formed 450 million years after the Big Bang, while the discovery of the GLASS-z12 galaxy broke the record again. The discovery of these two galaxies may mean that there are more galaxies waiting to be discovered in the distant universe.

Tommaso Tommaso Treu, a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, said that according to the findings of this discovery, the Big Bang occurred 13.8 billion years ago, while the Milky way may have begun to appear 100 million years after the Big Bang. The discovery shifted the timeline of the formation of early galaxies, challenging astronomers' theories of how and when the first galaxies in the universe appeared.

CTOnews.com learned that the James Webb Space Telescope, jointly developed by NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), was officially deployed on January 8 this year. Its task is to find the earliest and farthest stars and galaxies and begin the exploration of the origin of the universe.
