CTOnews.com news on November 20, according to the official news of the three Gorges Construction Project under the three Gorges Group, on November 18, Anhui Shitai pumped Storage Power Station formally obtained the approval document of Anhui Provincial Development and Reform Commission, marking the completion of the preliminary work of Shitai pumped Storage Power Station.

CTOnews.com learned that pumped storage power stations can make use of the natural drop between upper and lower reservoirs according to the law of peak and valley of power use. when the power load is low, they can use electricity to pump water from the lower reservoir to the upper reservoir, which can be effectively stored, and the stored potential energy can be converted into electricity needed by users at the peak of electricity consumption.

The construction data of the three Gorges show that the total static investment of the Shitai pumped storage power station project is about 6.6 billion yuan, which is a daily regulated pumped storage power station with an installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts. It is planned to install four vertical shaft single-stage mixed-flow reversible hydrogenerators with a single unit capacity of 300000 kilowatts, with a designed annual generating capacity of 1.471 billion kilowatt hours.

According to reports, after the completion of the power station, it will mainly undertake peak regulation, valley filling, energy storage, frequency modulation, phase modulation and emergency reserve of Anhui power grid, and at the same time complement each other with the advantages of East China Power Grid and enhance the dispatching flexibility of East China Power Grid.
