Gustavo Caruso, director of the Nuclear Safety and Security Department of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said that although Japan does not fully comply with international safety standards, his team does not have the power to decide whether Japan should suspend emissions.

It is understood that the government and nuclear power plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Holdings (Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings) announced a plan last year to discharge the treated wastewater into the sea from next spring.

Earlier, according to media reports, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) issued a statement saying that it welcomed Japan's decision to deal with Fukushima nuclear sewage and was ready to provide technical support to Japan to supervise and review the safety and transparent implementation of the relevant plan.
