According to the construction plan, the Shantou Railway starts from Shantou Station in Shantou City in the east, passes through Huilai County of Jieyang City and Lufeng City and Haifeng County of Shanwei City, introduces Shanwei Station of Xiamen-Shenzhen Railway and runs directly with Guangzhou-Shantou Railway. There are 7 stations in Shantou, Shantou South, Chaonan, Huilai, Lufengdong, Lufengnan and Shanwei. The length of the new main line is 162.368 km, of which 35 bridges are 113.691 km and 13 tunnels are 32.404 km. The bridge-tunnel ratio is 89.77%, and the speed target is 350 km / hour. it is scheduled to be completed and opened to traffic in September 2023.
According to reports, this section of the tunnel is divided into sea section and land section, and the combined construction scheme of "open-cut method + shield method + mining method" is adopted. three mine legal areas of entrance, No. 1 inclined shaft and No. 2 inclined shaft are set up on the south bank, and a shield work area is set up on the north bank. The north and south banks are facing each other, and many working faces are excavated together.
Officials said that the Shantou Bay Cross Harbour Tunnel is a key control project of the whole line of the Shantou Railway. At present, the mine section of the tunnel has been dug a total of 5378 meters, and the whole tunnel has been excavated a total of 7490 meters, accounting for 76.58% of the overall length. The remaining two sections are not connected.
