Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced that Indian space start-up Skyroot launched India's first privately owned rocket Vikram-S at 11: 30am local time on Friday from Satish Dhawan launch site in Sriharikota, India, and conducted a suborbital flight.
According to reports, the mission was called Prarambh (Sanskrit for "start") mission and successfully completed the mission after flying at an altitude of 50 kilometers. The rocket eventually reached a peak altitude of 89.5 km before falling into the Bay of Bengal about five minutes after launch, meeting all flight parameters.
The commercial rocket, from India's Skyroot Aerospace Private Limited, was named after Vikram Sarabhai, the father of the country's space programme.
Founded in June 2018 by former ISRO scientists Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka, with about 200 employees, the company is India's largest private space start-up company, has won two Indian national awards, has raised $526 million so far, and successfully tested India's privately built solid rocket stage in December 2020.
Vikram-S is a single-stage, spin-stabilized solid propellant rocket with a mass of approximately 550 kg, a height of 8 m, a diameter of 37.6 cm, a peak vacuum thrust of 7 tons, and a payload of 83 kg to an altitude of 100 km. It carries three customer payloads, one of which is from a customer outside India.
According to reports, the six-meter-long rocket uses all-carbon fiber core structure, 3D printing components and other technologies, adopts spin and aerodynamic stabilization methods, and takes two years to complete research and development. In addition, the startup is building a series of launch vehicles named after Vikram Sarabhai, founder of India's space program.
SkyrootCTOnews.com understands that the Indian government passed the space sector reform in June 2020 and established the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe) to allow private enterprises to use ISRO infrastructure. New Space India Limited (NSIL) has also been established as the commercial arm of the space agency to work closely with private companies and start-ups to promote the country's space industry.
