Beijing, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) Elon Musk's $44 billion acquisition of Twitter still faces national security scrutiny by the U.S. government because of concerns that his foreign partners may be able to access user data, according to people familiar with the matter.

Note: the US government continues to seek information about confidential agreements reached between Mr Musk and foreign investors and whether they allow them access to users' personal data, according to people familiar with the matter. These investors took a stake in Twitter after Musk bought it.

The deal has attracted a lot of attention as US lawmakers have increasingly criticised the involvement of Saudi and Qatari investors. Earlier this week, the situation seemed to have become clear. U.S. Treasury Secretary Yellen said at the time that she did not see the need for an investigation. The U.S. Treasury Department heads the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, which investigates potential national security risks to such transactions. Just a few days ago, US President Joe Biden said Musk's relationship with other countries was worthy of attention.

Musk and Twitter have not commented.
