CTOnews.com, Nov. 18 (Xinhua)-- A recent survey of Apple App Store and Google Play Store found that thousands of apps do not comply with the Children's online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) of the United States. The bill was introduced in 1998 to protect the online privacy of children under the age of 13.

Pixalate, a foreign research agency, conducted a special survey of Apple App Store and Google Play Store during the third quarter of 2022, focusing on applications for children and their privacy policies.

CTOnews.com learned that in the survey, Pixalate found 420000 suspected children-oriented mobile apps in Apple's App Store and Google Play Store app stores, down 1% from the previous quarter, and the number of these apps accounted for about 8% of the two app stores.

The survey found that 64% of suspected applications for children are not explicitly registered in countries, and only 9% of applications are registered in the United States. The two app stores performed well in some ways, such as only one IP address that did not detect privacy policies and transmissions among the 192 suspected children-oriented apps in the App Store ratio. The number of Google Play Store is 86.

In the number of applications that did not transmit IP addresses and had no privacy policy, App Store attacks found 21125, accounting for 15%, roughly the same as last quarter, while 24826 such applications were found on Play Store.
