CTOnews.com, Nov. 18-eight former employees of SpaceX have filed unfair labor practices charges against the rocket maker with the U.S. Labor Commission, saying they were fired for openly opposing founder and CEO Elon Musk, Reuters reported.

The employees said Thursday they were fired because they were members of a group that drafted and distributed a letter to SpaceX executives in June criticizing Mr. Musk, the world's richest man, and urging them to make the company's culture more inclusive.

SpaceX did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

SpaceX fired at least five employees who were involved in drafting the letter, which said Musk had "distracted and embarrassed" the company, Reuters reported in June.

The complaint filed with the National Labour Relations Board (NLRB) on Wednesday alleges that SpaceX fired five employees the day after the letter was disclosed and four more in the following two months.

Two of the employees filed their own charges, and lawyers filed the charges on behalf of the other six employees, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

CTOnews.com learned that U. S. labor law forbids employers from firing workers who join forces to advocate better working conditions. When NLRB finds that the dismissal is against the law, it can order workers to be reinstated and repaid.

This week, Mr Musk was also on trial for shareholders questioning his $56 billion Tesla pay package.

The letter to SpaceX executives in June focused on a series of tweets by Musk since 2020, many of which were sexually suggestive. The employees claimed that Musk's actions were not in line with the company's policies on diversity and workplace misconduct. They called on SpaceX to publicly condemn Musk's remarks and to define more clearly the types of behaviour prohibited by company policy.
