Google is tracking all your online shopping receipts to your Gmail account via email.

Google's purchase history page has attracted public attention in a report on consumer news and business channels, although it has been around for at least a year as part of Google's assistant feature update.

Depending on when users set up their Gmail account, the purchase list, including those that were not purchased from Gmail, can be traced back to a few years ago, including subscriptions, movie and music purchases, and anything purchased online, if the receipt is sent to the Google account.

Purchase information is part of the Google account payment and subscription page. Google is still collecting flight, hotel and restaurant reservation data from Google assistants and Gmail.

The purchase page reads "only you can see your purchases", including "your transactions, including shipping and online orders, are collected from Google services, such as your assistant and Gmail."

Click on a project to provide details of the project, purchase time, currency and cost.

There is a "relocate purchase" option, but deleting an item requires deleting the original email, which comes from.

For anyone who relies on Gmail to keep a record of their purchases but doesn't want to be bought by Google, this choice may not be ideal. Google pointed out on a support page, "your order information can also be saved with your activities in other Google services."

In a statement to CNET, Google said it did not use Gmail information to locate ads. The company stopped scanning email content to customize ads in 2017, but it is clear that it still collects data from Gmail for other purposes, such as creating alerts.

A Google spokesman said: "We will not use any information in your Gmail message to provide you with advertisements, including email receipts and confirmations displayed on the purchase page."
