Today, Intel officially responded, "VLSI is a non-patent executive (NPE,non practicing entity) set up by hedge fund Fortress, commonly known as" patent rogue ", which squeezes high compensation from innovative companies such as Intel through lawsuits. Intel has repeatedly been forced to defend VLSI's unfair patent infringement allegations. We strongly object to the jury's verdict and the amount of compensation awarded. CTOnews.com learned that VLSI, a patent holding company owned by private equity firm Fortress Investment Group of the Softbank Corp. Group, found in a six-day trial that Intel's Cascade Lake and Skylake microprocessors infringed its patents covering data processing improvements that VLSI bought from Dutch chipmaker NXP Semiconductor.
