A spokesman for Meta said Wednesday that Abhijit Bose, the head of Meta's India market for WhatsApp communications services, and Rajiv Agarwal, Meta's director of public policy for India, have resigned. Earlier this month, Ajit Ajit Mohan, head of India marketing at Meta, announced his departure.

A Meta spokesman said the departures of Booz and Agarwal had nothing to do with the plans announced last week by Mark Zuckerberg, the company's chief executive, to cut more than 11000 jobs.

Meta's India market leader has reported directly to the company's core leadership team in Menlo Park, Calif., for years, but will now report to Meta's Asia-Pacific executives in Singapore, according to people familiar with the matter.

A spokesman for Meta declined to comment on reporting changes in the organizational structure.

In recent years, Meta's service business in the Indian market has grown rapidly. India is one of the markets with the largest number of Meta users. Hundreds of millions of people in India have access to the Internet for the first time, and Meta has invested billions of dollars in the local market, but it also faces more and more challenges.

Mohan has been the head of the Indian market since 2019. In an article posted on the recruitment platform LinkedIn, he said he had resigned from Meta to become head of Asia-Pacific marketing at Snap, the parent company of Snapchat. A spokesman for Meta said Mr. Mohan's departure had nothing to do with Meta's major layoffs. Today, Manish Chopra, Meta's head of market cooperation in India, is the interim head of Meta's India market.

Booz said through LinkedIn that he plans to take a break before starting a new startup project.

India has more than 300 million Facebook users and over 400 million WhatsApp users. Meta says it has invested heavily in technology to search for multilingual hate speech in the Indian market.

The Indian Competition Commission (Competition Commission of India), India's antitrust regulator, is also investigating the privacy policy issued by WhatsApp last year.

Meta said in 2020 that it would buy a stake in Indian telecom operator Jio Platform for $5.7 billion, the largest overseas investment by Meta.
