CTOnews.com, November 17, after the launch of its flagship product Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform at Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm today focused on products other than mobile phones and launched the second generation Bluetooth audio platforms Qualcomm S5 Gen 2 and Qualcomm S3 Gen 2, both of which support Snapdragon Sound Snapdragon listening technology.

Optimized with Qualcomm's newly launched second-generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform, these two products have rich features and ultra-low power consumption, bringing new features to Snapdragon Sound Snapdragon listening, including support for spatial audio with dynamic head tracking, optimized lossless music streaming and an extremely low latency gaming experience between mobile phones and headphones for 48 milliseconds.

Qualcomm S5 Gen 2 provides a more high-end experience, while Qualcomm S3 Gen 2 is aimed at mainstream audio accessories. The new chip can be used in conjunction with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to transmit lossless audio from the phone to the user's ear. The new chip supports dynamic head tracking to achieve spatial audio for a more immersive experience.

Both Qualcomm S5 Gen 2 and S3 Gen 2 have third-generation Qualcomm adaptive noise reduction, which enables pass-through when the headset hears someone talking to you, so you can also hear outside sounds without having to turn off ANC manually.

The S3 Gen 2 and S5 Gen 2 chips are also designed with the game experience in mind, providing a faster low-latency mode than before, down from 68 milliseconds in Generation 1 to just 48 milliseconds, and a voice backhaul channel for a high-quality chat experience in the game.

The S3 Gen 2 and S5 Gen 2 chips also support Auracast, which is a Bluetooth version of FM broadcast. A transmitter can send signals to multiple receivers without pairing in advance, only frequency modulation. This can be used to share music with friends, connect to TV outside the home (such as in the gym or airport), listen to public broadcasts in various places, and so on.

Qualcomm's S3 Gen 2 and S5 Gen 2 are designed for stereo headphones and midrange headphones that support lossless audio, as well as for wireless speakers.

The new audio platform also has a variety of connection standards, including Bluetooth LE Audio. Qualcomm also works closely with leading audio brand Bose, whose latest products will support Snapdragon Audio. In addition to headphones and speakers, the chipmaker envisions that AR and VR headdisplays will use Snapdragon sound technology. That's why it focuses on spatial audio, and it will be able to track the user's head movement to optimize sound and provide a realistic experience.

CTOnews.com learned that Qualcomm's S5 and S3 second-generation audio platforms are expected to enter commercial equipment in the second half of 2023.
