CTOnews.com, November 16, according to Shandong Nuclear Power, on November 15, the country's largest nuclear energy heating project, the National Power Investment "Nuancore No.1" nuclear heating project, officially launched heating this winter and next spring, providing warmth for 200000 residents of the country's first "zero carbon" heating city. As the largest nuclear heating project in China, the heating capacity of "Nuancore No.1" accounts for 92.8% of the country's total nuclear heating capacity.

In 2018, Shandong Nuclear Power took the lead in starting the research and practice of cogeneration of large pressurized water reactor in the commercial operation of Haiyang Nuclear Power Unit 1 in 2018. In 2019, the first phase of 31.5MW nuclear heating project of "warm Nuclear Power" was put into operation, which was named "National Energy Nuclear Energy heating Commercial demonstration Project" by the State Energy Administration. In 2021, the "warm Nuclear No.1" Phase II 202.5MW nuclear heating project was put into operation, helping Haiyang to become the first "zero carbon" heating city in the country.

Nuclear heating schematic CTOnews.com learned that the "warm Nuclear No.1" heating project draws steam from the nuclear power unit that has generated part of the electricity as a heat source, carries out multiple heat exchanges in the case of physical isolation, and finally sends the heat to the user's home through the municipal heating network. According to statistics, during the three heating seasons, "Nuancore No. 1" provided a total of 258.2 million gig of clean heat to the outside world, reducing raw coal consumption by 230000 tons, and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 420000 tons. Compared with before nuclear heating, the regional air quality has been significantly improved, and the marine ecological environment has improved significantly.

At present, the 900MW long-distance cross-regional nuclear heating project of "warm Nuclear No. 1" Phase III is progressing steadily as planned, and is scheduled to be put into operation by the end of 2023. By that time, the heating area will reach 30 million square meters, which can meet the heating needs of about 1 million people. At the same time, it can replace 900000 tons of raw coal consumption, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.65 million tons, and the thermal efficiency of the unit will be increased to 55.9%, 1.5 times that of the original. It can greatly improve the utilization rate of energy resources.
