CTOnews.com, November 16, the Fedora project today released the final version of the Fedora Linux 37 release, a major update to the Red Hat-sponsored release that includes some of the latest and powerful GNU / Linux technologies.

Fedora Linux 37 is one of the most anticipated GNU / Linux distributions this year, using the Linux 6.0 kernel driver and the latest GNOME 43 desktop environment by default in its flagship version of Fedora workstations.

The ISO image comes with the Linux kernel 6.0.7 by default, but the latest Linux 6.0.8 kernel is already available as a newer version. It also includes the latest Mesa 22.2 graphics stack and PipeWire 0.3.60 multimedia backend.

If you don't like GNOME, the official Fedora Linux Spins also includes some of the latest versions of the default desktop environment, namely KDE Plasma 5.26 Magi Xfce 4.16 LXQT 1.1.0 (LXQt 1.2.0 can be updated), MATE 1.26, and Cinnamon 5.4. Of course, LXDE, SoaS and i3 spins are also available for download.

CTOnews.com learned that Fedora 37 also brings good news for raspberry pie Raspberry Pi 4 users, which introduces official support for popular single board computers, including 4B, 400 and CM4 models, thanks to the accelerated graphics implementation using V3D GPU, as well as some broader general improvements. However, hardware-based media decoding (such as H264 / HVEC) is not supported.

Other important changes to Fedora Linux 37 are the official release of Fedora CoreOS and Fedora Cloud Base versions, the public release of Anaconda Web UI preview images, SELinux auto-tagging and running as default, the latest OpenSSL security patches, and the removal of support for the ARMv7 (ARM32 / ARMhfp) architecture.

To keep up with the latest trends in cryptography, this version also introduces a TEST-FEDORA39 strategy that previews changes to Fedora Linux 39, which is scheduled to be released in 2024. According to the Fedora project, the new strategy includes the transition from SHA-1 signing to better security.
