Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, November 16 (Xinhua)-- IBM recently announced a new addition to the data resiliency solution family. Its newly launched IBM Diamondback tape library is a high-density archive storage solution with physical air gap isolation that can help protect against ransomware and other network threats in hybrid cloud environments.
IBM Diamondback is suitable for organizations that need to securely store hundreds of PB of massive data, including both traditional enterprises and "trendy" large Internet enterprises, especially global enterprises that aggregate huge amounts of customer data. CTOnews.com learned that IBM Diamondback provides long-term storage with a significantly smaller carbon footprint and lower total cost of ownership than flash or hard disk storage.
According to officials, IBM Diamondback is designed to provide the following three advantages:
Sustainability:
Compared to hard disk-based storage systems, the IBM tape library system is designed to significantly reduce energy consumption and cooling requirements, thereby reducing the carbon footprint, because tapes are left idle in the automated library and do not consume energy until they are accessed. The long-term durability of magnetic tape allows data to be stored for up to 30 years.
Ransomware protection and network resilience:
Organizations around the world are under pressure to strengthen their defenses against malware and data leaks. Tapes provide physical air gap isolation to improve resilience to threats.
Data capacity and storage costs:
The cost of IBM tape storage system is about 1/4 of the total cost of public cloud archiving service based on hard disk storage system, which has a significant cost advantage.
IBM Diamondback provides cost-effective archive storage solutions for the massive capacity requirements of the ZB (Zettabyte) era to support vertical markets such as big data, analytics, cloud storage services, Internet of things, healthcare and life sciences. These areas and organizations tend to generate a large amount of high-value unstructured data, most of which are archived and stored for future reference, usually benefiting from active archiving using high-capacity, low-cost tape systems.
IBM also recently announced the inclusion of Red Hat storage in IBM storage to provide customers with a consistent experience from edge to core to the cloud; in addition, IBM has recently released a series of products to improve the resilience of enterprise data center networks, including IBM Spectrum Sentinel for SAP HANA and IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Online Services for Salesforce;, as well as an extended IBM Spectrum Archive that supports direct access to files and directories stored on tape.
