CTOnews.com November 16, Qualcomm officially launched the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform this morning, and Motorola just confirmed that the moto X40 will be equipped with the platform.

The new Motorola 5G model XT2301-5 is now licensed to enter the network, and sources say it is the upcoming moto X40. According to the filing information, the moto X40 weighs 196g, has a body size of 161.3 × 73.9 × 8.5mm, uses an OLED screen with a resolution of 6.67in 1080 × 2400, and supports 10bit color depth and off-screen fingerprint identification. In terms of configuration, the moto X40 has a built-in 4950mAh / 4450mAh battery, equipped with 8GB / 12GB / 18GB RAM memory and 128GB / 256GB / 512GB body storage. The moto X40 rear 50MP+50MP+12MP triple camera combination is expected to be a master shot, an ultra-wide angle and a portrait lens, respectively, supporting 4x optical zoom.

CTOnews.com learned that Snapdragon 8 Gen2 was manufactured by 4nm process, using one Kryo super-large core based on Cortex-X3, main frequency 3.2GHz, 4 performance cores (2 x Cortex A715 + 2 x Cortex A710, all 2.8GHz) and 3 Cortex-A510 energy efficiency nuclei (small core, frequency 2.0GHz). Compared with Snapdragon 8, the final CPU performance is improved by 35% and the power consumption is reduced by 40%. The new generation of Adreno GPU has a 25% increase in performance and a 45% reduction in power consumption. It supports Vulkan 1.3 and hardware-level ray tracing technology.

Snapdragon 8 Gen2 integrates the new Hexagon processor, the tensor unit is greatly enhanced, and the performance of some scenarios is claimed to be improved by 4.35x. Equipped with X705G baseband and the new FastConnect 7800 unit, it supports 5G dual card and dual access (highest downlink 10Gbps), Wi-Fi 7 (maximum 5.8Gbps, double Wi-Fi 6), Bluetooth 5.3, Bluetooth LE audio, 48kHz lossless audio, space audio, etc.

In addition, the new perceptual ISP (three 18bit) supports Samsung and Sony's latest CMOS, with a maximum of 200 megapixels and up to 8K 30p or 4K 120p video capture.

The first batch of Snapdragon 8 Gen2 will be carried in Xiaomi, Hongmi, Glory, iQOO, Yijia, OV and other manufacturers, and the new phones are expected to be launched one after another by the end of 2022.
